Michael Connery has a diverse and extensive work experience in the fields of communications and digital strategy. Michael began their career at Music for America, where they founded a progressive nonprofit organization aimed at engaging young people in politics through their local music communities. During the 2004 election cycle, the organization reached over 2 million young voters at 2,445 concerts.
After that, Connery worked at The Opportunity Agenda as a Digital Strategist. Michael developed the founding digital strategy for the communications think tank, launching their first website, blog, and email program. In this role, they managed content production and supervised a team of interactive design and editorial interns.
Connery then joined the Center for Independent Media - Future Majority Blog as a New Media Fellow and Founder. Michael launched a nationally-recognized blog dedicated to research, polling, and reporting on the youth vote. The success of the blog led to the publication of a book called "Youth to Power." Connery also developed the organizational branding and managed a volunteer staff.
In 2010, Connery joined the New York Senate Dems as the Director of New Media. In this role, they rebooted the committee's online strategy, developed a new visual identity and website, and implemented a new CRM and email system. Michael also built a substantial email list through organic growth and paid acquisition and launched the committee's social media channels.
Connery's next position was at Weber Shandwick, where they held various senior roles. Michael started as a Director, Digital Communications, then became a Vice President, Digital Communications, and later a Senior Vice President, Digital Communications. In these roles, they led integrated communications engagements for clients like the National Education Association, the Environmental Defense Fund, and WebMD. Michael also developed digital content marketing and advocacy offerings for the agency and led strategies on grassroots advocacy campaigns.
Currently, Connery is an Executive Vice President, Integrated Media Strategy at Weber Shandwick. In this role, they are responsible for leading integrated media strategy efforts and overseeing the agency's approach to mis-disinformation for clients that include NGOs, government agencies, and Fortune 500 brands.
Michael Connery completed their Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy at Boston College from 1996 to 2000. Michael then pursued their Masters in English at Indiana University Bloomington from 2001 to 2002.
