Christopher J. Motl

President, Commercial Banking at Webster Bank

Chris Motl is President, Commercial Banking at Webster Bank (NYSE:WBS), a leading commercial bank with more than $60 billion in assets. Chris leads the combined Sponsor & Specialty Finance group, capital markets activities including sales, syndication, proprietary swap, and foreign exchange business and Public Sector Finance. He also oversees Innovation Finance, Lender Finance, Business Banking, and Webster’s Private Banking group. Additionally, Chris leads the Webster Commercial Real Estate, Treasury Management and Middle Market banking team throughout New England.

Chris joined Webster in 2004 as founder of Webster’s Sponsor & Specialty division, and was then promoted to Senior Vice President, Director, Sponsor & Specialty. In 2018, Chris was named Executive Vice President, Commercial Banking, responsible for leading the continued expansion and transformation of Webster’s Commercial Banking division, including the Commercial Real Estate, Sponsor & Specialty, Middle Market, Asset Based Lending, Treasury Management and Private Banking segments. His role further expanded in 2020, with the alignment of Business Banking into the Commercial Bank. Prior to joining Webster, Chris worked at CoBank as vice president.

Chris serves on the board of Special Olympics of Connecticut and the Travelers (Golf) Championship. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
