Country Manager, Japan & Korea at Weights & Biases

Akira Shibata has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. They currently serve as the Country Manager for Japan & Korea at Weights & Biases, a position they have held since February 2023. Prior to this, they were an Advisory Board Member at D Capital starting from October 2021.

From October 2021 to February 2023, Shibata worked as the Chief Operating Officer at Qosmo, Inc., where they led the development and execution of go-to-market strategies for AI in creativity. They launched various products for both B2B and B2C markets.

Before that, Shibata was the CEO and Chief Data Scientist of DataRobot in Japan, a role they held from November 2015 to July 2021. They successfully grew the customer base to over 200 and built a strong market presence. They were responsible for managing a team of 60 individuals across multiple functions.

Shibata co-founded and served as the CEO of Shiroyagi Corporation from April 2013 to October 2015. This company participated in the MOVIDA seed accelerator program and received funding from Global Brain. Their app, Kamelio, received recognition as the 2014 Best App from Apple.

They started their career as a Consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in April 2010, where they worked on strategic management consulting projects for clients in various industries. Shibata also served as a Strategy Institute Ambassador at BCG's New York Office in 2011/2012.

Their earliest work experience was as an Assistant Research Scientist (PostDoc) at New York University from September 2007 to February 2010. They contributed to building a language for statistical modeling, a crucial component for the Higgs Boson research.

Throughout their career, Shibata has demonstrated expertise in leadership, go-to-market strategy, data science, and consulting.

Akira Shibata obtained a BSc in Physics from Queen Mary University of London, where they attended from 2001 to 2004. Following this, they pursued a Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics at the University of London from 2004 to 2007.
