Jeffrey Kang

Dr. Kang began his career as an internist and geriatrician. From his early days in Boston, as a physician providing community-based care to under-served elderly, he realized that, in order to provide the full range of support and care necessary for older patients, he needed to move beyond fee-for-service health care.

At the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr. Kang was responsible for national coverage decisions, regulation of the healthcare industry, and health plan and provider quality measurement and improvement. He used that platform to develop risk adjustments for sicker, chronic patients, develop HEDIS and STAR measurement programs and make investments in information technology to improve data tracking. With these investments in place, the healthcare system could support improvements in care for older patients.

Dr. Kang received a BA from Harvard, an MD from UC San Francisco, and an MPH from UC Berkeley. He did his clinical training at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital and remained on the clinical faculty at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kang currently serves on the board of directors of NCQA, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and ChenMed.
