David A. Vaudt

Director, Chair of the Audit Committee at Wellmark

David A. Vaudt has more than 44 years of experience in auditing and accounting. He recently completed a seven-year term as chairman of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Prior to serving as chairman of the GASB, he served for more than 10 years as Iowa's elected Auditor of State, having been elected in 2002, 2006, and 2010. Prior to holding elected office, Mr. Vaudt spent more than 25 years with the international accounting firm of KPMG LLP, more than 13 years as an audit partner before retiring in 2001.

Mr. Vaudt graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in accounting, summa cum laude. He has served on numerous community and professional organizations throughout his career. He served nine years on the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board including eight years as Chair. Mr. Vaudt is also the past Chair of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, past president of the National State Auditors Association, past Chair of the Better Business Bureau of Iowa, past Chair of the Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, and past Chair of the James B. Morris Scholarship Fund. He also served on the Des Moines Playhouse Board of Directors, Walnut Creek Family YMCA Board of Directors, Young Women’s Resource Center Board of Directors, Client Security and Attorney Disciplinary Commission of the Iowa Supreme Court, and Audit Committee of Des Moines Public Schools.
