Richard Freeman

Richard Freeman, MD, MBA, FACS, currently serves as the Executive Vice President & Chief Physician Executive at Wellstar Health System since July 2024. Prior to this role, Richard held the position of Chief Clinical Officer and Professor of Surgery at Loyola University Medicine from November 2019 to July 2024. Richard's extensive experience includes serving as the Health System Chief Medical Officer for St Vincent/Ascension Indiana, overseeing 18 inpatient facilities, and as the Regional Chief Medical Officer at St Vincent Hospital Indianapolis, where responsibilities included clinical care, quality, safety, and governance for multiple facilities. Richard began a notable career in thoracic surgery at St Vincent Hospital Indianapolis, leading the division and enhancing the program’s volume and innovation. Richard obtained an MD from Tufts University School of Medicine and an MBA from The University of Texas at Dallas.
