Annette Thomas is an accomplished Consultant Clinical Biochemist with over 30 years of experience in Laboratory Medicine, currently serving as the Director of WEQAS since June 2003. With 25 years dedicated to quality assurance as a Scheme Organiser and Director at WEQAS, an ISO 17043 accredited EQA provider for Diagnostic Medicine, Annette has a deep commitment to excellence in clinical practices. Previously, Annette held the position of Consultant Clinical Biochemist at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board from 2000 to October 2019, focusing on Quality Assurance of Point of Care Testing and acting as Clinical Lead. Additionally, Annette has served as the lead scientist for Point of Care for the National Pathology Board in Wales and chaired the “All Wales” POCT Coordinators Group. Annette's educational background includes a Master of Philosophy in Clinical Biochemistry Research from the University of Wales, College of Medicine, as well as various degrees in Macromolecular Biology and Clinical Biochemistry.
