Simon Fontaine has a diverse work experience in the mining industry. Simon started their career as an intern at IAMGOLD Corporation in 2012 and later worked as an engineering intern at Glencore Matagami Mine in 2014. In the same year, they also worked as a teacher aide at Laval University. Simon then joined GoldMinds Geoservices as a junior mining engineer in 2015. Simon gained further experience at Stornoway Diamonds, where they worked as a junior ground control engineer, ground control engineer, and production engineer from 2017 to 2020. Simon currently holds various roles at Wesdome Gold Mines, including mine engineer, senior mine engineer, and chief engineer.

Simon Fontaine obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering and Mineral Processing from Université Laval from 2011 to 2015. Simon then pursued further education and completed a Master of Business Administration in Mining and Mineral Engineering at Université Laval from 2018 to 2023. In addition to their formal education, Simon also obtained certifications including "Formation modulaire du travailleur minier" from the Commission scolaire de l'Or-et-des-Bois in August 2012 and "Permis général d'explosif" from the Sûreté du Québec in March 2012.
