Shannon Draayer has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Shannon started their career as a Communications Intern at the Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives in 2008. Shannon then worked as a Communications Intern at U.S Senator Tom Harkin, where they compiled daily news clippings, researched news stories, and wrote press releases. In 2009, they became a Clerk for State Representative Elesha Gayman.
Draayer also worked as a Marketing and Communications Associate for AmeriCorps, where they assisted the Director of Sustainability with daily duties and managed website design. Shannon then joined LPCA Public Strategies as a Senior Associate, where they developed strategic communication plans and managed client relations.
In 2012, Draayer joined Healthways as a Regional Marketing Manager for the Blue Zones Project. In this role, they supported teams in 13 cities across the nation to improve community well-being. Shannon'sresponsibilities included project and content planning, grassroots outreach, media relations, social media management, and new product development.
After their tenure at Healthways, Draayer joined the Blue Zones Project as an Implementations Manager, where they managed the implementation of well-being initiatives. Shannon later became a Community Coach, formerly known as Regional Marketing Manager, where they provided coaching and support to communities.
Most recently, Draayer served as the Director of Health and Well-Being at WesleyLife, starting in 2018.
Shannon Draayer obtained a Master's degree in Masters of Communication Leadership from Drake University between 2014 and 2016. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, as well as Political Science, at Iowa State University from 2005 to 2009.

As a nonprofit organization guided by Christian compassion, we were founded than 66 years ago as a place for aging Methodist ministers and their spouses to call home. Today, our services are delivered by 1,300 part- and full-time passionate team members throughout the state with a focus on creating healthier and longer lives.
