Rowan Whimster

Trustee at Wessex Archaeology

Rowan, who joined the Board of Wessex Archaeology in April 2016, has worked in the historic environment field for 40 years, first as an aerial archaeologist at Cambridge University and with the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, later on the executive board of English Heritage and now as a freelance editorial consultant and adviser. Alongside his specialist knowledge, he has extensive experience of corporate governance, strategic planning and publishing. A Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, former Vice-President of the Council for British Archaeology and Senior Member of the Council of the National Trust, he has lived for past 25 years in north Wiltshire where he is actively involved in wide range of conservation, heritage and environmental bodies while leaving sufficient time for his other life as a ceramicist.
