Aída Walqui

Director, National R&D Center to Improve Education for Secondary English Learners

Aída Walqui is the Director and Principal Investigator at the National Research and Development Center to Improve Education for Secondary English Learners at WestEd, where they developed the Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) initiative. With extensive experience in bilingual education and professional development, Aída has served as an international consultant and has held academic positions at institutions such as Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz. They hold an MS in Sociolinguistics from Georgetown University and a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture from Stanford University. Aída is the author of thirteen books and over thirty articles, focusing on teacher expertise in multilingual contexts and promoting equity through dialogic education. In recognition of their contributions, Aída was named one of the 50 most influential researchers in English language teaching by the International TESOL Association in 2016.
