Mitch Herz

Mitch Herz serves as a School Accountability Researcher at WestEd, leading research initiatives funded by a $100,000 Gates Foundation grant and supporting school improvement for the Bureau of Indian Education. Prior roles include Senior Research Scientist at Project ECHO, where Mitch developed a logic model for education programs and managed staff performance metrics, and Director of Research, Evaluation & Accountability at the New Mexico Public Education Department, overseeing statewide accountability systems. Experienced in program evaluations, Mitch has held leadership positions at Apex Evaluation and Albuquerque Public Schools, contributing to educational effectiveness and policy compliance, and has conducted research for the New Mexico Legislative Education Study Committee. Mitch holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's degree from Grinnell College.
