Sam Magill

Principal Cello at Western Piedmont Symphony

Sam Magill has extensive work experience as a cellist. Sam started their career with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in 1978 and worked there until 1986. From 1988 to 1991, they were a cellist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In 1991, they joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as an Associate Principal Cello and remained there until 2020. Currently, they are the Principal Cello with the Western Piedmont Symphony since 2023.

Sam Magill's education history includes obtaining a Bachelor of Music degree in Violoncello and Music Performance from The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. They also received a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University. Additionally, they attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for music performance studies.
