Brett Gardiner

Brett Gardiner has extensive work experience in the healthcare industry, ranging from Director roles to project management positions. Brett started their career in 1996 at the South Western Sydney Area Health Service as the Director of Aged Care & Rehabilitation. Brett later joined the Northern Sydney Central Coast Health organization in 2001, serving as the Director of Medical Services at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service. During their time there, they spearheaded the implementation of new models of care and received recognition for their innovative initiatives. In 2006, Gardiner moved to the Sydney West Area Health Service, where they held the position of Director of Medical Administration. Here, they led numerous service planning and development initiatives, with a focus on medical workforce planning, operational sustainability, and financial efficiencies. In 2010, Gardiner joined St Vincent's Health Network Sydney as the Director of Clinical Governance & Chief Medical Officer. Brett played a key role in various mission and social justice initiatives, including advocating for alcohol harm reduction and violence prevention. Most recently, Gardiner has been associated with the Western Sydney Local Health District, where they have served as the Project Director for Medical Workforce Strategy & Planning and the Network Director for Subacute & Ambulatory Medicine. Through their diverse roles, Gardiner has demonstrated their ability to lead projects and implement transformative changes in healthcare settings.

Brett Gardiner's education history includes obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Sydney in 1982. Brett then pursued further education, earning a degree in Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM) from The Royal Australasian College of Physicians from 1986 to 1989. In 1990, they attended UNSW and completed a Master's in Health Administration (MHA). Additionally, they acquired a Fellowship in Medical Administration (FRACMA) from the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators from 1991 to 1995. In 2015, they also completed a program at the Australian Institute of Company Directors, earning a GAICD certification.
