Early career experience includes serving as the general director and management assistant at Deen's Grossierderij from 1992 to 2000. Robbert holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Small Business from Inholland University of Applied Sciences and obtained a Black Belt in Lean from UNC Plus Delta in 2016.

Westfort grew out of two family businesses with a long tradition in the pork industry: Egbert Kruiswijk Vleesproducten B.V. and Lunenburg Vlees B.V. In 2013, the companies decided to pool their resources, so they could enhance their position as pioneers in innovative concept development, and further strengthen the move towards sustainability in the Dutch meat industry.
