Jason Vella

Jason Vella has a diverse range of work experience spanning over a decade. Jason started their career as a Senior Software Developer at Virgin Games, where they worked on implementing new functionality and integrations with third-party gaming providers. Jason then moved on to Digital Distribution Networks, where they built back-end web services and implemented front-end music streaming features. Jason later joined Chemistry as a Senior .NET Developer before transitioning to Albumprinter as a Senior Lead Developer and Solutions Architect. At Albumprinter, they designed a back-end solution for organizing large volumes of photos and led a team in building it.

Jason then joined Travix International as a Technical Architect, where they led the technology direction for a high-load airline ticket e-commerce platform. Jason addressed performance issues and provided training and mentorship to improve platform stability. After that, they worked at IRA Services Trust Company as the Chief Software Architect, leading the design and implementation of a financial platform for managing self-directed pension accounts. Jason utilized Azure cloud infrastructure for development, testing, and production.

In 2017, Jason founded Red Camel Consulting and served as a Senior Software Consultant. Jason provided consulting services and worked on various projects until 2020. Jason then joined ING as an IT Chapter Lead, leading a team in building an application to streamline intra-company invoicing.

In 2021, Jason joined LawVu as the VP of Engineering, where they focused on improving engineering processes, reducing technical debt, and enhancing stability and agility. Jason later transitioned to the role of Head of Platform to have a more focused impact on the technical direction and architecture of the platform.

Currently, Jason Vella is working as a Principal Engineer at Westpac New Zealand, where they apply their expertise to drive technical excellence and provide direction for engineering efforts.

Jason Vella pursued a Bachelor of Information Technology degree in Software Engineering from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) from 2002-2004. Jason also holds several additional certifications, including "Blockchain: Beyond the Basics" from LinkedIn, "Getting Started with Go" from Coursera, "Node.js for C# Developers" from LinkedIn, "Docker for .NET Developers with Visual Studio" from LinkedIn, "IBM Cloud: Deploying Microservices with Kubernetes" from Coursera, "Microservices - Fundamentals" from Coursera, and "M101 - MongoDB For Developers" from 10Gen in 2012.
