Stephen Johnston

Stephen Johnston is an accomplished technology leader with extensive experience in risk management, financial crime, compliance, and digital finance. Currently serving as the Head of Technology for Risk Management and Financial Crime & Compliance at Westpac since June 2020, Stephen has previously held significant roles at IAG, where responsibilities included leading digital finance initiatives and large-scale business transformations. Prior to that, Stephen contributed to Commonwealth Bank in various managerial capacities focused on financial services and risk technology. Early career experience includes leadership positions at Proximity, an Apple-acquired technology startup, and as a Principal Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where Stephen managed complex consulting projects across multiple countries. Stephen holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Information Technology from UNSW and completed executive education at MIT Sloan School of Management.
