Marilyn Schonberner

Marilyn Schonberner has a strong work experience in the corporate and financial sectors. Marilyn began their career at Gulf Canada in 1990, where they worked as a Senior Business Advisor and Coordinator of Financial Accounting until 1995. Marilyn then joined Grantham and Nichols as a Senior Consultant from 1995 to 1997. Marilyn continued to grow their career at Nexen, starting in 1997 as the General Manager of HR Shared Services. In 2002, they became the Director of Corporate Audit at Nexen Inc., which lasted until 2008. Marilyn then took on various roles at Nexen, including Finance Director, Treasurer, and VP of Corporate Planning, from 2008 to 2015. From 2016 to 2018, they served as the Chief Financial Officer and Sr. VP at Nexen. In 2017, Marilyn joined New Gold Inc. as a Corporate Director and later took on the same role at Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. in 2018. Marilyn currently holds both positions at New Gold and Wheaton Precious Metals.

Marilyn Schonberner completed their Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree in Finance, General at the University of Alberta. Marilyn then went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Calgary in 1997. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation from the Society of Certified Management Accountants of Canada in 1983, a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation from The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. in 1985, and a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation from the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA) in 1999. Additionally, they attended various executive education programs, including the Executive Development Program at London Business School in 2007, the Role of the Board program at the Institute of Directors (IoD) in 2009, the Supply Chain Management Programme at INSEAD in 2012, and the Directors Education Program at ICD-Rotman in 2017-2018.
