Farris Wahbeh has a diverse range of experience in the art and archival field. Farris started their career as a Special Collections Cataloging Assistant at the Getty Research Institute in 1998. Farris then worked as a Research Database Editor, focusing on provenance research and database editing. Following this, they took on the role of Library Assistant, where they primarily assessed and preserved collections.
Wahbeh then moved to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where they served as a Curatorial Assistant for the Roger Brown Study Collection. Farris'sresponsibilities included managing the collection and conducting conservation work.
After their time in Chicago, Wahbeh held roles as Director of Collections and Exhibitions at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, and as Manager of the Creative Audio Archive at the Experimental Sound Studio. In these positions, they oversaw various collections and managed all aspects of exhibitions and archive preservation.
Wahbeh then joined The History Factory as a Project Director and Archivist, working on the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology Founding Archives. Farris also worked at Columbia University as a Project Archivist for art historian Meyer Schapiro.
Most recently, Wahbeh worked at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Starting as Manager of Cataloguing and Documentation, they were responsible for maintaining metadata and content standards for the museum's permanent collection. Farris later became the Benjamin and Irma Weiss Director of Research Resources, where their role involved managing staff and documentation for new acquisitions.
Overall, Wahbeh's experience encompasses collection management, preservation, exhibition, and cataloguing, showcasing their expertise in the field of art and archives.
Farris Wahbeh completed a Tamer Center Executive Education Program in Museum Leadership at Columbia Business School in 2022. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Art History, Theory, and Criticism from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, from 2003 to 2005. Farris also holds a Bachelor's degree in Art History and Italian from UCLA, which they earned from 1994 to 2000.
