Megan Anhalt

Chief Strategy Whaler at Whole Whale

Megan is the Chief Strategy Officer and COO of Whole Whale. She has over 10 years of experience leading purpose-driven projects to help nonprofits, foundations, and companies create social impact. As a Strategy Director and Senior Strategist for Purpose, Megan drove several campaigns to address some of the world’s biggest challenges, including supporting the rights of low wage workers, fighting Parkinson’s disease, building a better food system, and improving jobs in America today — alongside many incredible partners like the SEIU, The Rockefeller Foundation, Care.com, and Unilever. Before joining the team at Whole Whale, Megan led digital communications for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, managing web, Facebook, and overall digital strategy for Priscilla Chan and the Zuck himself under CZI’s philanthropic banner.

Megan cut her teeth in the early days of social media and technology while at Disney Channel and ABC Family, using the web to engage a target audience of millennials through digital and social content featuring the likes of Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers. She then became the Director of Media & Communications at DoSomething.org before packing up and traveling halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. There she continued to create impactful digital strategies for global brands like Qantas, Ford, and IBM while cultivating a deep love for sun-soaked coastlines and flat whites.

A frequent speaker on the important role storytelling and technology play in shaping our culture and bringing about lasting change, Megan has presented and led discussions around topics that include Nonprofit Storytelling, A/B Testing, digital impact, and making campaigns that matter for forums like the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, Nonprofit Technology Conference, and Social Media Week. Megan’s the instructor for the digital Social Media for Social Impact course on Whole Whale University. She’s also starred in various WWTV videos and has authored Raising Your Voice: Digital Storytelling to Create Change, a guide for UK teens on how they can create, share, and inspire social change in their communities and beyond.

Megan is a volunteer mentor for the San Francisco Education Fund and the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for Art in Action, a national arts education nonprofit that works to ensure that every child has access to a quality and meaningful arts education that helps set them up for future success.
