Kai-Fu Lee

Advisor at WI Harper Group

Dr. Lee is the Founder of Innovation Works. He served as Vice President, Engineering of Google Inc., and President of its Chinese operations since July 2005. He is widely known for his pioneering work in the areas of speech recognition and artificial intelligence. Dr. Lee joined Google from Microsoft, where he most recently held the position of Corporate Vice President, after founding Microsoft Research China in 1998. Prior to joining Microsoft, Dr. Lee was a Vice President and General Manager at Silicon Graphics Inc., responsible for internet and multimedia software. Dr. Lee also spent six years at Apple, serving as Vice President of Apple’s interactive media group, and before that was an assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

He is the Chairman of the Advisory Board at WI Harper since October 1, 2009. In addition, from 1988 to 1990 he was an assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he developed the world’s first speaker-independent continuous speech-recognition system. Dr. Lee holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. in Computer Science with the highest honors from Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
