Professor Tien is Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Hong Kong, an expert in the area of micro and nanotechnology, including micro-electromechanical (MEMS) systems, and an expert in the field of Robotics.
Prior to joining The University of Hong Kong, Professor Tien was Dean and Nord Professor of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. Before that, he was Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Davis, and held a joint appointment as Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also received the distinction of honorary Professor of Tianjin University and has been a guest professor at Peking University.
Professor Tien has published over 115 scientific articles. He helped establish the International Networked Sensor Systems Conference and served as Editor for the leading MEMS publication, the IEEE/ASME Journal of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems.
