Wigle Whiskey Distillery
Wigle Whiskey is a family owned craft distillery in Pittsburgh. When it began operating in December 2011, Wigle was the first distillery to open in the city of Pittsburgh since Joseph S. Finch's distillery closed in the 1920s. Wigle is named for a good-natured man who was sentenced to hang for his unsinkable love of whiskey. In 1794, Phillip Wigle defended his right to distill in a tussle with a tax collector. He unwittingly helped spark the Whiskey Rebellion, which pitted Pennsylvania distillers against George Washington's troops. Wigle Whiskey is working to restore a Pennsylvania tradition championed by these rebellious distillers. We make spirits much the same way Wigle and his friends did – with a copper pot and local ingredients. Wigle spirits are distributed across the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast and in California and have won a host of medals, including Best in Category Rye Whiskey, Wheat Whiskey and Genever-style Gin, by the American Craft Spirits Association.
