Oakley Brooks has a diverse work experience that spans several industries and roles. They have held positions such as Director of Communications and Senior Communications Manager at the Wild Salmon Center, Senior Media Manager at Ecotrust, and Contributing Editor at The Nature Conservancy. Oakley has also worked as a science and environment journalist for various organizations and served as a Writer-in-Residence at the Earth Observatory of Singapore, where they published a book on human adaptation to earthquake and tsunami challenges. Prior to that, Oakley held editorial roles at Oregon Business Magazine, Saratoga News, and High Country News. They even started their career as a Social Studies Teacher at Trenton Central High School.
Oakley Brooks attended Princeton University, where they pursued a B.A degree in History. Oakley studied at the university until 1999.
