Wildlands Network
Fred Koontz serves as the Board President for Wildlands Network since May 2023 and as a Research Fellow at PAN Works, an animal ethics think tank, since December 2021. Previously, Fred held the position of Senior Fellow at the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife in 2021 and served as Commissioner on the Washington Fish & Wildlife Commission. From 2011 to 2017, Fred was the Vice President of Field Conservation at Woodland Park Zoo, collaborating on strategies to enhance field-based wildlife conservation programs. Prior to that, Fred was the Executive Director at Teatown Lake Reservation from 2005 to 2011 and the International Program Director and Executive Vice-President at Wildlife Trust from 1999 to 2004. Fred began a career at the Wildlife Conservation Society in 1984, serving in various roles until 1998. Fred holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Maryland, obtained between 1972 and 1984, and completed high school at Mt. Hebron High School, graduating in 1972.
