Paul Samuels

Paul Samuels serves as the Technical Director at HR Wallingford since September 1974, focusing on developing research projects in the natural hazards area funded by the EC Seventh Framework Programme. With expertise in river management, flood risk assessment, and climate impacts, Paul has contributed substantially through various roles, including Specialist in Fluvial Systems, Manager of Computational Methods Group, and Principal Engineer. Additionally, Paul has been the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Flood Risk Management since January 2014, overseeing the peer review of research papers on flood risk management. Paul also served as a volunteer Director for ORCHARD CLOSE RESIDENTS LIMITED, managing the administrative aspects of a residential estate from August 2022 to October 2024, and tutored students as an associate lecturer at The Open University from February 1999 to July 2017. Educational credentials include a Master of Arts in Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science from the University of Cambridge and a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics from the University of Reading.
