Shawn Barnes

Shawn Barnes has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Shawn started their career as a Public Relations Department Intern at the Kansas City Chiefs in 1992. Shawn then worked as a Sports Reporter/Copy Editor at the Columbia Daily Tribune in 1993. From 1994 to 1997, they served as the Coordinator of News and Sports Information at Columbia College. In 1998, they worked briefly as an Adjunct Instructor in Public Relations at the same institution.

In 1997, Shawn joined the Missouri Department of Transportation as a Public Affairs Manager for District 2. Shawn managed media relations policies and developed relationships with elected officials and civic organizations. Shawn later served as a Public Affairs Coordinator for Long-Range Transportation Planning and oversaw the development of innovative public involvement strategies.

Shawn then transitioned to the role of Special Assignments Coordinator in Public Affairs at the Missouri Department of Transportation's statewide headquarters. Shawn managed the Community Outreach work group and developed communication programs to encourage public participation. Shawn also served as a media liaison and worked on internal and external communication plans.

From 2002 to 2008, Shawn worked at Williams-Keepers LLC. Shawn started as a Marketing Manager before transitioning to roles as Director of Marketing and Business Development. Shawn supervised staff members, managed a college internship program, and developed business development strategies for an accounting firm. Shawn also handled recruiting and hiring responsibilities.

Shawn Barnes's education history begins with their high school diploma from North County High School, which they received in 1987. Following that, they attended Mineral Area College from 1987 to 1989 and earned an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies. Shawn then pursued their Bachelor of Journalism degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1989 to 1992. Continuing their education, Shawn Barnes obtained a Master of Education degree in Sports Management from the same institution, the University of Missouri-Columbia, between 1993 and 1995.
