Shannon Reid has extensive experience in public service and advocacy, currently serving as an elected County Commissioner for Douglas County, Kansas, since January 2021, where responsibilities include convening public meetings and making policy decisions for over 40,000 residents. In addition to this role, Shannon has worked at The Willow Domestic Violence Center since February 2013, focusing on empowering survivors and providing access to legal resources. The Willow Domestic Violence Center is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence and human trafficking by providing safety, education and advocacy. Incorporated in 1976, The Willow (then known as WTCS) was the first domestic violence shelter in Kansas. The agency supports and assists all victims of domestic violence and human trafficking in Douglas, Franklin, and Jefferson Counties.
