Douglas Buan has over two decades of work experience in various roles related to information security, risk management, compliance, and fraud investigations. Douglas is currently serving as the Chief Information Security Officer at Wind River Financial, where they are responsible for managing all aspects of risk and compliance, as well as consulting on the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Prior to this, they held the position of Global Senior IT Manager, Security & Identity at Fiskars Group, where they supported IT security audit and assessment and assisted in managing identity security on a global scale.

From 2009 to 2021, Buan worked at Wind River Financial, Inc, initially as a Director of Risk Management, overseeing credit underwriting, risk and fraud monitoring, and web content monitoring. Douglas later became the Senior Director of Information Security, Compliance Officer, and Privacy Officer, where they provided leadership in information security and managed IT and third-party vendors. Additionally, they acted as the Compliance Officer for industry and regulatory compliance and served as the Data Privacy Officer, being the primary point of contact for audits.

Between 1999 and 2009, Buan worked at Metavante, where they served as a Senior Fraud Investigator, conducting external payment card fraud investigations and maintaining a network of law enforcement and industry contacts. Douglas also held the position of Internal Investigations Lead, where they led internal investigations and developed fraud policies for payment card and bill pay call center environments.

Prior to their career in the private sector, Buan worked as a Police Officer at the City of Fitchburg, WI Police Department and served as a Loss Prevention Manager at Saks Incorporated.

Douglas Buan completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science & Law, as well as a Certificate in Criminal Justice, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1990 to 1994. In addition to their educational background, they have obtained several certifications throughout their career. These include being a Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI) since February 2009, a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Internal Security Assessor (ISA) since June 2011, a Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM) since April 2013, a Certified Cyber Crimes Investigator since June 2014, and a Payment Card Industry Professional (PCIP) since December 2015. Most recently, Douglas Buan obtained a Formstack Certified, Level 1 certification from Formstack in March 2023.
