Richard Fitzgerald has a diverse and extensive work experience. Richard currently holds the position of Director of Security at the Wisconsin Lottery, starting in 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Police Officer at the Geneva Lake Law Enforcement Agency, starting in 2020. In 2019, Richard retired from the Wisconsin State Patrol after serving as a leader and instructor in various capacities, including as a Firearms Instructor, Leadership School Instructor, and Dignitary Unit Leader. Richard then joined the Wisconsin State Capitol Police as a Police Officer from 2020 until 2022. Richard's earlier experience includes serving as a Sergeant in the WI State Patrol Dignitary Unit from 2008 to 2019. Before that, they retired as a First Sergeant from the US Army, where they served as a Linguist-Voice Intercept Operator and traveled extensively. Richard began their career in law enforcement as a State Trooper in Sauk County from 1997 to 2008, where they were responsible for public safety and firearms instruction.

Richard Fitzgerald received a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management from Texas A&M University-Commerce, where they studied from 1983 to 1987.
