Claire Wardle

Claire is one of the world’s experts on verification and misinformation, co-authoring the seminal report – Information Disorder: An interdisciplinary Framework for Research and Policy for the Council of Europe in 2017. She is the Executive Chair of First Draft, a non-profit dedicated to educating journalists about reporting in an age of information disorder. Before First Draft, she was a Fellow at the Shorenstein Center for Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School and the Research Director at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She has also led a number of substantial research projects, investigating how UGC is handled by news organizations, first for the BBC in 2008, and then in 2014 for the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. She holds a PhD in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania. She lives in New York City.
