Aaron Mesburne

Narrative Game Designer at Wizards of the Coast

Aaron Mesburne has a diverse work experience in the gaming industry, with a focus on game design and development. Aaron began their career as a Research Assistant at the University of Washington, where they worked in a Molecular Neuroscience lab. Aaron later worked as a Program Manager and Researcher at RTneuro Inc., where they played a key role in exploring the feasibility of a health-related wearable biosensor venture.

In 2012, Mesburne ventured into freelance work as a Film Creator and Videographer, working on various film projects and producing promotional videos. Aaron then transitioned to the gaming industry and joined Funko Games as a Production Assistant and Game Designer. During their time at Funko Games, they assisted with project organization, researched and tested games, and contributed to the design of an unreleased, licensed project.

Mesburne later joined Hourglass escapes llc as a Game Designer, Project Manager, and Game Master. Aaron adapted to COVID-19 restrictions by translating physical escape rooms into digital experiences and managed a team to complete projects. Aaron also designed puzzles and player experiences for an upcoming licensed escape room.

In 2018, Mesburne started their own freelance business, providing game design and development services to publishers such as Hasbro and What Do You Meme. Aaron designed and developed successful games, including Overboss and Verdant, which raised over $850k on Kickstarter. Aaron also collaborated with other designers on playtesting projects.

In 2021, Mesburne joined Lasting Smiles as the Lead Games & Puzzles Producer. Aaron owned the development of multiple board games and jigsaw puzzles, sourced illustrators and graphic designers, and drafted contracts.

Most recently, Mesburne has joined Wizards of the Coast as a Narrative Game Designer. Aaron'sresponsibilities in this role are not specified.

Aaron Mesburne has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience from Oberlin College. In 2020 and 2021, they attended the University of Washington, where they completed the User Centered Design Certificate Program with a focus on User Experience.
