Gavin Verhey has a diverse work experience that spans over 16 years. Gavin began their career at Wizards of the Coast in 2005 as a Senior Game and Product Designer, where they contributed to over 40 Magic design teams, managed relationships between departments, and produced a large amount of written content. At Wizards of the Coast, Verhey also led and innovated the design of new products, games, and play formats, revolutionized Magic's experience design, and designed and coordinated unique convention experiences. Gavin also represented the company at various events and gave talks at conventions.
In addition to their work at Wizards of the Coast, Verhey also had experience as a Professional Player. Gavin qualified for multiple Pro Tour events and attended numerous Grand Prix events, where they constructed, tested, and refined original deck archetypes and optimized strategies for different competitive formats.
Verhey also worked at StarCityGames.com as a Columnist and SCGLive Commentator from 2009 to 2011. In this role, they wrote weekly articles about Magic strategy, deckbuilding, and game theory, and provided live commentary at StarCityGames' events.
Furthermore, Verhey had experience as an Opinion Columnist for The University of Washington Daily from 2009 to 2011. Gavin wrote weekly opinion columns and offered feedback to improve the newspaper's format and content.
Lastly, Verhey worked as a Developer for Ku-Mighty TCG at Ultimate Gaming Hideout in 2010. In this role, they developed the game with a small team, adjusted the power level and abilities of cards, and built decks to explore all the "color" combinations within the game.
Gavin Verhey started their education journey in 2007 at Cascadia Community College, where they pursued an Associate of Arts degree. After completing their studies there in 2008, they moved on to the University of Washington in 2009. At the University of Washington, they focused on English and obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in 2010.
