Matt Johnson

Chief Engineer at WJBF NewsChannel 6

Matt Johnson has a strong background in engineering and IT, with a focus on media and law enforcement. Matt most recently worked as the Chief Engineer at WJBF NewsChannel 6, starting in August 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Assistant Chief Engineer at the same company since March 2021. From October 2017 to March 2021, Matt worked as a Lieutenant and IT Director at the Burke County Sheriff's Office. Matt also has experience as an IT Engineer at Media General from January 2013 to October 2017.

Matt Johnson has a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Southern Indiana. Matt also attended Augusta Technical College's Police Officers Training Academy and completed a program in Basic Peace Officer. In 2018, they pursued a Master's degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from Faulkner University, which they completed in 2019.

WJBF NewsChannel 6 signed on in Augusta, Georgia as an ABC affiliate in November 1953 and is owned by Nexstar Media Group. WJBF–TV has been awarded the prestigious "Station of Year"​ award by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters in 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, and 2003. We are the only station in Augusta with full–time capital reporters in Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC, three meteorologists, the area's only LIVE Doppler Radar, and the largest news staff in the CSRA.
