Shana Tarter

Shana Tarter is a seasoned professional in the field of wilderness medicine and education, currently serving as the Managing Director for the Diploma in Climate Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Tarter has been the President of the Wilderness Medical Society since January 2015, leading the largest non-profit organization dedicated to wilderness medicine with approximately 4,100 members globally. With extensive experience at NOLS since 1992, Tarter has held various leadership roles, including Senior Faculty and Instructor Trainer, where significant contributions included the initiation of the Wilderness Medicine instructor training program. Previous positions include Board Trustee at Central Wyoming College, Associate Director at Cornell Outdoor Education, and Senior Risk Management Consultant. Tarter holds a BA in Archaeology and Geology from Cornell University and has completed a Humanitarian Response Intensive Course at Harvard University.
