Paul Coomey

Paul Coomey is an experienced professional with a diverse range of roles in the creative industry. Paul is currently working as an Art Director at Wonderbly since May 2019. Additionally, they are also an established Author & Illustrator, having published two books titled "Stick Boy" and "Stick Boy and the Rise of the Robots" in April 2022.

Prior to their current positions, Paul was the Director at the Hastings Book Festival from November 2022. Paul was also the Director of OpenArt from November 2017 to November 2019, where they utilized construction site hoardings to display local community art. Furthermore, they worked as an Art Director at Little Tiger from April 2016 to May 2019 and at Hackney Citizen from 2007 to March 2017.

Paul has also held roles at Simon & Schuster Children’s Books as a Senior Designer from March 2010 to March 2016. Paul was responsible for overseeing various design projects. Paul worked as a Design Manager at Boxer Books from April 2008 to July 2009 and as an Assistant to the Creative Director from November 2007 to April 2008. In these roles, their responsibilities included communication with artists and authors, scheduling appointments, maintaining a creative schedule, and preparing book layouts. Paul also gained experience in customer and public interaction at industry events.

Paul began their career as a Production Controller at Quarto Publishing from June 2006 to November 2007, where they managed production processes. Overall, they have a strong background in art direction, illustration, design, and event management.

Paul Coomey has a diverse education history spanning multiple fields of study and institutions. In 1997, they began their undergraduate studies at the University of Galway, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English & Irish in 2000. Following this, in 2000-2001, Paul pursued a Master of Arts degree in English & Publishing at the same institution.

In 2002, Paul participated in the Irish Studies Exchange Program at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, focusing on the field of Irish studies. The following year, in 2007, they attended the University of the Arts London, although no specific degree was mentioned, their field of study was graphic design.

In addition to their studies in the arts and humanities, Paul also explored other creative fields. In 2012, they enrolled at Camden Working Mens' College, where they pursued a Further Education (FE) course in Fashion Design. Later, in 2018, they further expanded their skill set by taking an FE course in Ceramic Arts and Ceramics at Morley College.
