Tony Knutson has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Anthony (Tony) started their career as an Engineering Technologist at TransAlta in 1998 before moving on to become an Assistant Mine Supervisor at Canada's largest coal mine. Anthony (Tony) then took on the role of Outage Coordinator, gaining project and people management skills in the power plant outage management field. In 2006, Tony joined Maxim Power Corp., where they held various senior leadership roles, including Director of Corporate Development, Asset Manager, and Manager of Coal Supply and Mine. During their time at Maxim Power, Tony was involved in advancing an underground export coking coal mine and procuring coal for a power plant. In 2018, Tony joined Wood Mackenzie as a Principal Analyst, providing valuable analysis and forecasts for the metallurgical coal industry. Anthony (Tony) later served as the Metals and Mining Emissions Research Lead before becoming the Global Head of Thermal Coal Markets. Tony's experience showcases their expertise in coal research, commercial analysis, project management, and leadership.

Anthony (Tony) Knutson holds a Master of Energy and Earth Resource Leadership degree from Queen's University, earned between 2018 and 2020. Prior to this, they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Geology/Earth Science, General at the University of Calgary from 2013 to 2017. In 1996 to 1998, Tony obtained a Diploma in Geological Technology from NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology), and in 2005, they received a Millwright Trade Basics Certificate from the same institution with a field of study in Millwright.
