Daniel Carvalho, PhD has a diverse work experience in various industries. Daniel is currently working as the Global Research Director - Metals and Mining at Wood Mackenzie. Prior to this, they were the Manager Engineering Upstream Blueprint at Northvolt, where they focused on scaling up new factories. Daniel also pursued a Sloan Fellow Master Degree in Strategy and Leadership at the London Business School, during which they received the 50th Sloan Fellow Anniversary Scholarship. Daniel has also held positions at Ternium as the Head of Research and Development, and at thyssenkrupp as a Principal Engineer in the Steel Plant division, where they managed strategic roadmaps and implemented lean manufacturing. Daniel started their career as a Customer Technical Assistance Trainee at USIMINAS and completed an internship at White Martins.
Dr. Daniel Carvalho holds a PhD with honors in Iron and Steel Technology from Montanuniversität Leoben, which they obtained between 2017 and 2020. Prior to that, they earned a BEng in Metallurgical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, completing their studies from 2004 to 2009. Dr. Carvalho also holds a MSc in Metallurgical Engineering Process Modelling from Universidade Federal Fluminense, achieved from 2013 to 2015. Additionally, they pursued a Sloan Fellow Master in Strategy and Leadership at London Business School, completing this program from 2020 to 2022. In terms of certifications, they are a Six Sigma Black Belt, obtained from thyssenkrupp in 2017.
