Andre Pereira

Andre Pereira is an accomplished legal scholar and practitioner with extensive experience in medical law and bioethics. Currently serving as Vice-President and Counselor at the Conselho Nacional de Ética para as Ciências da Vida, Andre Pereira actively contributes to ethical reflections on scientific advancements. Additionally, Andre Pereira holds counselor positions at the Conselho Geral da Universidade de Coimbra and the Universidade de Coimbra, focusing on education and research policies. As Director of the Centro de Direito Biomédico, Treasurer and Governor of the World Association for Medical Law, and Professor at the Summer School on Medical Law and Bioethics, Andre Pereira is influential in teaching and advancing the field. Andre Pereira's academic foundation includes a Doctorate in Law and multiple post-graduations from Universidade de Coimbra, complemented by a significant teaching history at the same institution.

World Association for Medical Law

The World Association for Medical Law (WAML) was established in 1967, and conducted its first formal gathering in 1970. The purpose of the WAML is to encourage the study and discussion of health law, legal medicine and ethics, for the benefit of society and the advancement of human rights. The aim of the WAML is to promote the study of the consequences in jurisprudence, legislation and ethics of developments in medicine, health care and related sciences. Since its creation the WAML held 22 World Congresses, and used its International Journal Medicine and Law for the publication of more than 2000 articles of authors from more than 100 countries. The Association engages in educational activities and aims to promote discussion and deliberation among academic and non academic channels, through its bi-monthly Members Newsleter, its regular Radio Program and more.
