Donia Hammami

Head Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme at World Customs Organization

Donia Hammami has a diverse range of work experience. Donia began their career as an Assistant Attaché at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN. Donia then worked as a Policy Advisor on Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands.

Moving into the field of trade facilitation, Donia held multiple roles at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), including Vice-President of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation and Head of Customs & Trade Facilitation. During their time at ICC, they initiated a global multi-stakeholder initiative and led trade facilitation reforms and advocacy campaigns. Donia also served as the Executive in Charge of Taxation, Customs & Trade Facilitation Policy and as a Policy & Project Manager for business action against counterfeiting and piracy.

Donia later worked as the Vice President of Trade and Customs Consulting at KGH Customs Services. Donia then joined the IOTA Foundation as a Strategic Advisor for Global Trade & Supply Chains, focusing on blockchain implementation in international trade processes.

Most recently, Donia has been involved with the World Customs Organization (WCO), where they served as the Head of the Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme. In this role, they oversaw a trade facilitation programme funded by the United Kingdom, focusing on inclusive and sustainable trade-led growth in emerging economies. Donia was also an Executive in Charge for UK-supported Trade Facilitation Capacity Building Programmes, overseeing programmes in partnership with the World Bank Group and UNCTAD.

Throughout their career, Donia has engaged with various stakeholders, including national governmental agencies, the World Trade Organization, and the United Nations. Donia has demonstrated expertise in trade facilitation, customs, and supply chains, and has contributed to policy discussions and initiatives in these areas.

Donia Hammami has a diverse education history. From 2002 to 2003, they attended Hanzehogeschool Groningen / Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, where they pursued a degree in Law for their first year. Donia then moved on to the University of Groningen from 2003 to 2009, where they obtained their Master's degree in International Relations and International Organization. In 2006, Donia took on additional graduate courses in Political Science at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.
