Maria J. Alonso Gonzalez has a diverse work experience in the field of mobility and transportation. Maria J. is currently working at the World Economic Forum as the Lead of Autonomous Systems - Automotive, where they lead the strategy and implementation of the organization's work on software-defined vehicles and vehicle autonomy. Maria J. collaborates with senior executives to improve safety, inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience in the automotive sector. Maria also curates high-level public and private dialogues and workshops.

Prior to their current role, Maria worked as the Lead of Automotive and New Mobility at the World Economic Forum. Maria J. has also served as a Policy Researcher at the Kennisinstituut voor Mobiliteitsbeleid (KiM) – Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, focusing on research related to new mobility services, transport infrastructure, transport equity, and decarbonization.

Maria has experience working as a Consultant at The World Bank, where they co-authored a report on Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) in emerging economies. Maria J. has also worked as a PhD Researcher at TU Delft, conducting research on new mobility services and publishing in esteemed transportation journals.

Additionally, Maria has a technical construction background, having completed a trainee program at Strabag, where they specialized in road construction. Maria J. has also worked as a Researcher at Transver GmbH, contributing to transportation consultancy projects.

Maria J. Alonso Gonzalez has a diverse education history consisting of four degrees. Maria J. obtained a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Civil Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Maria J. then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Munich. Following that, they earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Quantic School of Business and Technology. Currently, Maria is working towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Transportation from Delft University of Technology.
