Albert Fischer

Director, WMO Integrated Global Observing System Division, Infrastructure Department at World Meteorological Organization

Albert Fischer serves as the Director of the WMO Integrated Global Observing System Division within the Infrastructure Department at the World Meteorological Organization since January 2023. Prior to this role, Albert held various positions at the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO from March 2004 to December 2022, including Director of the GOOS Project Office and Head of the Ocean Observations and Services Section. Albert's experience also includes serving as a Programme Specialist and acting Director for the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) Project Office. Earlier in his career, Albert was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Pierre and Marie Curie University from March 2001 to February 2004. Educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program and an S.B. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, along with Executive Education in Managing Global Virtual Teams from INSEAD.
