Head, Standards And Trade Development Facility (stdf) at World Trade Organization

Melvin Spreij is a legal professional with extensive experience in international law and trade. Currently serving as Head of the Standards and Trade Development Facility at the World Trade Organization since April 2006, Melvin Spreij also holds the position of Counsellor in the Agriculture and Commodities Division, focusing on sanitary and phytosanitary measures. Prior to this role, Melvin Spreij worked as a legal consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization from March 2001 to March 2006, specializing in natural resources and development law. Earlier experience includes legal consultancy assignments at Voxius, a lawyer position at BarentsKrans specializing in intellectual property rights, and a legal representative role at MINDEF (NL) with a focus on contracts and labor law. Melvin Spreij holds a Master’s degree in Civil and Business Law from Leiden University and has completed additional studies at the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco.
