Hibret A TILAHUN has work experience spanning over several years in various roles in the field of public health. They started their career as a Primary Health Care Unit Health Officer at the Amhara Regional Health Bureau in 2000. They then worked as a Child Survival Specialist at JSI | John Snow, Inc. from 2004 to 2006. Following that, they served as a Child Health and Nutrition Project Officer at Catholic Relief Services from 2006 to 2007. They also held the position of Health and HIV Prevention Adviser at Save the Children UK from 2007 to 2008.
From 2008 to 2012, Tilahun worked as the Technical Director of the Last Ten Kilometers /L10K/ Project at John Snow Research and Training Institute. They provided technical leadership and managed relationships with partners for a community-based reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health project.
In 2012, Tilahun became the Director of JSI's subcontract to Pathfinder International, where they designed, implemented, and evaluated programs addressing various health issues. They also collaborated with government and non-government partners and contributed to the preparation of health sector development program documents and guidelines in Ethiopia.
From 2014 to 2016, Tilahun worked at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health as the Executive Director of the HEPCAPS2 Project and Research Associate. They led the design and execution of primary health care solutions in Ethiopia and managed project relationships and coordination.
From 2016 to 2018, Tilahun served as the Chief of Party for a project funded by USAID at JSI | John Snow, Inc. They led a $6 to $7 million per year investment and managed a large staff to address public health problems in urban areas.
Tilahun then became the Director of the Ethiopia Data Use Partnership (DUP) Project at JSI from 2019 to 2022. They provided technical assistance to improve health information systems and managed a partnership funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
Currently, since 2022, Tilahun is working as the Chief of Party/Global Director for the CORE Group Partners Project at World Vision USA.
Hibret A TILAHUN pursued a Bachelor's degree in Public Health at Alemaya University from 1997 to 2000. Subsequently, they obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Public Health from Addis Ababa University, studying for two years between 2002 and 2004. Continuing their academic pursuits, Hibret A TILAHUN completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Public Health from Addis Ababa University, graduating in 2012.
