Udara Manawadu has a range of work experience in various engineering roles. They started their career as an Applications Engineer at Caterpillar Inc in 2011. Later, in 2015, they worked as a Robotics Engineer at Tokyo Robotics Inc, where they focused on multi-robot autonomous navigation and robot motion planning.

In 2017, Udara had an internship as a Research Engineer at Nissan Motor Corporation, specifically working on Autonomous Drive HMI. From 2018 to 2020, they were a Research Engineer at Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Research Institute Advanced Development, specializing in automated driving core technology. During this time, they also held the position of Senior Research Engineer - Driver Sensing at Toyota Motor Corporation.

In 2019, Udara joined Woven by Toyota as a Senior Engineer, and in 2020, they became a Technical Committee Member at IEEE and an Associate Editor at IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. They currently hold all these positions.

Udara Manawadu has a diverse educational background and a range of certifications. Udara obtained a Doctor of Engineering (Ph.D.) degree with a specialization in Robotics and Intelligent Systems from Waseda University, where they studied from 2015 to 2018. Prior to that, from 2013 to 2015, they pursued a Master's Degree at the same institution, focusing on Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering.

Before attending Waseda University, Udara completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Moratuwa from 2008 to 2012, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc. Eng. (Hons)) with a major in Mechanical Engineering.

Earlier in their academic journey, from 1994 to 2007, Udara attended Rahula College. Although the specific degree and field of study are not mentioned, it can be assumed that this period refers to their primary and secondary education.

In addition to their academic achievements, Udara has also pursued additional certifications. Udara obtained the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 certification from The Japan Foundation in January 2023. In January 2020, they acquired a Professional Test Vehicle Driver License from Toyota Motor Corporation. Furthermore, Udara received the Licensed Scrum Master certification from Scrum Inc. in February 2019.
