X, the moonshot factory
Jian Guan has a diverse background in software engineering and research. Starting in 2020, they worked as a Software Engineer at X, the moonshot factory. Prior to that, from 2017 to 2020, they held various roles at Cadence Design Systems, including Software Engineering Manager and Lead Software Engineer. In these positions, Jian Guan played a key role in the development and successful launch of Cadence Clarity, a 3D full-wave electromagnetic solver. They also developed a new finite element method for solving partial differential equations in low-frequency electromagnetics.
Before joining Cadence Design Systems, Jian Guan worked at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they served as a Research Assistant from 2011 to 2017. During this time, they focused on developing numerical methods for solving partial differential and integral equations in electromagnetics. They also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the course ECE 110: Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Jian Guan's career began at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, where they worked as a Research Assistant from 2009 to 2010. In this role, they simulated metamaterials and electrically small antennas. Overall, Jian Guan's professional experience highlights their expertise in software engineering, electromagnetic analysis, numerical methods, and research.
Jian Guan has an extensive educational background in the field of electrical and computer engineering. From 2011 to 2017, Jian studied at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. During the same period, from 2011 to 2013, Jian also completed a Master's degree in the same field at the same university.
Prior to their studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Jian Guan attended the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. From 2009 to 2010, they pursued a Master's degree in Computational Physics as a Master Candidate. Before that, from 2005 to 2009, Jian earned a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics.
In addition to their formal education, Jian has also obtained additional certifications. In April 2019, they received a Deep Learning Specialization Certificate from deeplearning.ai. Furthermore, in May 2013, Jian obtained a Certificate of Graduate Specialization in Computational Science and Engineering from the Department of Computational Science and Engineering.
