Cara Michelle Barry, BSBM, MBA, is an accomplished professional in health care information management with a strong background spanning various leadership roles. Currently serving as the Director of Expert Health Plan Provider Data Management at Availity since May 2016, Barry is responsible for optimizing the exchange of essential health care data. In addition to this role, Barry holds a two-year term as the X12 Liaison to CAQH CORE and co-chairs the X12N WG15 Provider Information group. Further involvement includes co-chairing the Provider Information Workgroup at WEDI, which focuses on improving health IT and healthcare information exchange. Barry's prior experience includes executive positions at UnitedHealth Group, First Coast Service Options, Qualedix, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, alongside significant contributions to the development of EDI standards and compliance in the health insurance sector. Educational credentials include an MBA in Information Technology and ongoing doctoral studies in Business Administration with a focus on Health Information Technology.

X12, chartered by the American National Standards Institute for more than 40 years, develops and maintains EDI standards and XML schemas which drive business processes globally. X12's diverse membership includes technologists and business process experts in health care, insurance, transportation, finance, government, supply chain and other industries. X12 members meet to regularly to develop and maintain EDI standards that streamline and facilitate consistent electronic interchange of business transactions, such as order placement and processing, shipping and receiving information, invoicing, payment and cash application data. With more than 320 transaction standards available for use, X12 standards can be used to conduct nearly every facet of business-to-business operations.
