Raymond Howard has extensive work experience in the mining industry. Raymond started their career as a Mining Engineer at Sasol in 1998, where they worked on various projects to improve mining methods. Raymond then moved to Sasol Mining in 1998 and took on roles such as Renewal Facilitator and Production Mine Overseer. In 2002, they joined Xstrata Coal as a Technical Services Manager, responsible for mine planning and various departments. Raymond later became the Group Mining Engineer and Manager of Mine Planning and Technical. In 2014, Raymond started their own consulting firm, Ray Howard Consulting, providing mining engineering services. Raymond is currently working as the Chief Mining Engineer at Yancoal Australia Ltd, where they also held the position of Principal Mining Engineer.

Raymond Howard's education history begins in 1985 when they attended Ogies Hoërskool and obtained their Metriek degree. From 1989 to 1992, they pursued a degree in Mining Engineering, obtaining a NHD Mining Engineering from the University of Johannesburg and a ND Mining from Witwaterrand Technicon. In 1999, Raymond pursued an Engineering Degree in Technology Management from Hanzehogeschool Groningen / Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. In 2005, they attended the University of Johannesburg again and obtained a B.Tech Eng degree in Mining Engineering.
