Mark Mbugua

Mark Thairu Mbugua (mtm) has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Mark Thairu is currently the Regional Marketing Head (SADC) at Yellow Card App, where they are responsible for driving financial inclusion through making cryptocurrency accessible across Africa. In this role, they lead the Southern Africa marketing team and develops regional marketing and go-to-market strategies.

Prior to their current position, Mark worked as a Marketing Manager - Africa at UnionPay International, a company that provides cross-border payment services. In this role, they enabled card acceptance in 50 African countries and managed local issuing across 11 markets.

Before joining UnionPay International, Mark was the Business Unit Head at The District, where they held leadership responsibilities from November 2016 to April 2018.

Mark also has extensive experience at Young & Rubicam, where they held various roles from 2011 to 2016. Mark Thairu served as an IMC Account Lead for Colgate Palmolive in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, an Account Director for Colgate Palmolive in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, and an Account Manager and Executive for Colgate Palmolive in Africa, Middle East, and Eurasia.

Mark began their career as an Account Executive at M&C Saatchi Abel from November 2008 to May 2010.

Mark Thairu Mbugua (mtm) completed their Bachelor's Degree in Management and Political Science from The Wharton School in 2008. Currently, they are enrolled at SACAP (The South African College of Applied Psychology) and is expected to graduate in 2024 with a Bachelor of Applied Social Science degree, specializing in Psychology and Counselling.
