Paul Ferguson

Governor at York St John University

The Right Revd Paul Ferguson grew up in Birkenhead. He obtained first-class degrees in music (New College, Oxford) and theology (King’s College, Cambridge), and a PGCE (Westminster College, Oxford). Paul also holds the fellowship diploma of the Royal College of Organists and still plays in public from time to time. He was ordained to serve in Chester, after which he spent a number of years on the staff of Westminster Abbey and York Minster. For 13 years he held an oversight role in the northern part of the Diocese of York as Archdeacon of Cleveland, and in 2014 was consecrated Bishop of Whitby. He has held several school governorships, and is currently Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education and of the Church of England’s national Schools Development Group. He is married with three grown-up children and four grandchildren.
